A Missouri woman failed to give her dying daughter painkillers and took the medication herself, according to Wednesday's charges by Troy police.

Carol Ballweg, 46, has been charged with four counts of stealing a controlled substance and two counts of misdemeanor for abusing an elderly, disabled or vulnerable person, according to online court records.

The charges were laid after medical staff expressed repeated concerns about Ballweg's terminally ill daughter who was receiving palliative care and prescribed fentanyl and oxycodone for pain relief. Ballweg was the main caregiver for her daughter.

Ballweg was in the habit of asking that his daughter's medicines be filled sooner than necessary. When a doctor prescribed a urine test of the patient, no trace of the pain medication was found, according to the release.

According to the police, the staff also found that the patient had bedsores.

After the police searched Ballweg's home on Tuesday, she admitted to having opioid addiction and taking her daughter's oxycodone drugs herself, the statement said.

Ballweg's obligation has been set at $ 100,000 in cash, provided that she has no contact with the victim. No attorneys are listed for Ballweg in court records online.
