Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had a difficult night in Havana Rumba.

The senator from Kentucky was heckled Friday night at the popular Cuban restaurant Bardstown Road.

At one point, a man took McConnell's takeaway on the table, opened the door on Bardstown Road and threw the food on the sidewalk, according to Casey Leek, who attended the meeting while he was there. dined at the restaurant on Friday night.

A video acquired by TMZ and published Saturday morning shows a man screaming after the senator and his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.

The video shows McConnell and Chao sitting in front of a booth when a man confronts the couple by telling him "they will come for social security" and at the same time shouting: "Why do not you leave the whole country alone?"

The senator remains silent while a table of people in the restaurant tells the rowdy to move. Leek said that many in the restaurant seemed to oppose McConnell.

Leek, describing what he saw from beginning to end, told the Courier Journal that he had first seen McConnell and Chao go to the restaurant bar before returning to the dining room main.

A woman approached the table after a few moments, said Leek. She declared aloud that McConnell was a "traitor", while others applauded and joined. McConnell was silent, while Chao responded forcefully that the protesters should "leave them alone."

In an article on Facebook, Havana Rumba said her staff was "caught off guard, the incident developing rapidly" during a busy period.

"We deeply regret the incident that occurred in our restaurant this weekend and we are convinced that everyone should feel welcome and safe in our restaurants," the restaurant said. "Once we were aware of the situation, we acted quickly and efficiently to ensure the safety of all, and for 14 years we managed all the situations that occurred without any complaints whatsoever. do it, by training our staff and better management. Robert Steurer, a spokesman for McConnell, said the Senator and Chao had enjoyed their meal "and that they appreciate those who have stood up against incivility".

"They hope other customers will not be too bothered by leftist crises," said Steurer, adding that McConnell was not intimidated by the protesters.

It has been an unpleasant year for McConnell in restaurants and other public spaces.

Earlier this month, a Kentucky senator was confronted at a Washington, DC airport by women protesting the confirmation of new Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, accused of abusive sexual behavior.

In June, McConnell and Chao were heckled by protesters as they were leaving a dinner at Georgetown University in Washington.

A few weeks later, in July, he was confronted outside Bristol on Bardstown Road, during a luncheon with the outgoing chief of the Kentucky House majority, Jonathan Shell. The same weekend, McConnell suddenly left Sarino in Schnitzelburg when the protesters sounded the blazon of "Fight the Power" of Public Enemy.

Demonstrators confronted the senator about US immigration and customs legislation and the Trump administration's policy of separating migrant families at the border. Faced with many criticisms, President Trump subsequently issued a decree to end this practice, which McConnell argued.
