This off season promises to be fascinating.
Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are the best free agents on the market – both superstars and both just 26 – and rumors about their landing potential are sure to be there. And you know that there will be a lot of commercial exchanges and commercial whispers.

But the way the offseason takes place is just as interesting, if not more so. Last year, you remember, was not comparable to any other recent season. Some players signed early, but most free agents remained free until early spring training, or even later. Several very good players had to settle for a one year contract. The players were clearly unprepared for this development.
Will it happen again out of season, or will the recruitments – and the money that goes with them – return to a more "normal" level this year? Nobody really knows.

1. Bryce Harper, 26, of
It's hard to decide which item is the most compelling: where Bryce ends up or how much money he gets.
2. Manny Machado, 26, SS
Manny has heard some bastards in the playoffs, but make no mistake: each team wants a 26-year-old shortstop that finishes a season of 37 homers, 5.7 bWAR.
3. Patrick Corbin, 29, SP
A 29-year-old southpaw who ends a season with 11.1 strikeouts and nine FH 2.47? The line is long, people.
4. Josh Donaldson, 33 years old, 3 years old
It may be a bit high for a guy with injury problems in recent years, but it's worth it for a short-term contract (if he's betting on himself) or for an incentive contract .
5. Nathan Eovaldi, 29, SP

Keuchel is probably not the number one World Series competitor at this point, but he is as reliable as any free agent starter on the market.

The 2018 season was far from its best season, but it only allowed 4.5 hits out of nine, eliminated 13.9 out of nine, saved 42 matches and had a WHIP of less than 1,000.
8. Michael Brantley, 31, of
After two years of disruption with injuries, Brantley came back and was the same force of confidence that he had made his entire career in Cleveland, in good health. The fact that he is not attached to a draft represents a big bonus for his prospects as independent agents.
9. A.J. Pollock, 31, FC
