MLB Cook: Nathan Eovaldi would have aroused the interest of a long list of contenders

Nathan Eovaldi was one of the biggest stories of the post-season thanks to his exploits with the Boston Red Sox. Now he is about to become one of the winter poster heads. The combination of recent performances, tricks and the relative youth of Eovaldi (he is 29 in February) makes him attractive. Add to that the lack of a qualifying offer – unlike the other best players on the market – and its ranking at the top of the lists of preferences of many teams makes sense.

The Boston Globe Nick Cafardo confirmed on Sunday noting that nearly a third of sportspeople are interested in Eovaldi's services. This is what Cafardo wrote:

The first candidates are Brewers, Phillies, Braves, Angels, Red Sox, White Sox, Blue Jays, Padres and Giants. There will probably be more. Eovaldi would like to stay in Boston and the Red Sox will do their best.

Many of these teams were contenders. The surprises are the White Sox (which seems to interest the best players of the winter), the Padres (which we have linked to Eovaldi by ourselves) and the Blue Jays. Mark Shapiro would not seem to pay the market price for Eovaldi – not when Toronto seems closer to a youthful move than a competitive push in the East of the US League – from cracks.

Someone will do it – they always do it – but at this rate, it does not seem to be Eovaldi.
