MLB Heater: Hal Steinbrenner of the Yankees is not short of hurry at Manny Machado's | What this means

[ad_1]

Manny Machado will have explanations to make.

If Machado wants the Yankees to pay more than $ 300 million to sign this season off, the 26-year-old star will have to clarify what he meant when he told The Athletic during the playoffs that he he did not like the owner, Hal Steinbrenner, said, according to reports from David Lennon of Newsdays and Ken Davidoff of the New York Post.

Davioff's report:

"If it's a man of $ 300 million or $ 10 million, it's clear that these comments are troubling," Steinbrenner told a small group of reporters. "But it's really [general manager Brian Cashman’s] employment. If a player interests us, sit down with him face to face and ask him, "Where does this come from? What was the context around the interview? Have you tried to make a point [make]? How do you justify that?

Let's break down what it could mean.

Machado will not be able to avoid it: It would have been thought that Machado should explain it. His comments shocked baseball fans and, in fact, just about everyone who thinks working hard every day. He will not only have to explain himself, but probably explain to the fan base of the team he finally calls home. It's hard to believe that Machado gets all this money, and then sticks to it, especially in the Bronx.

But that might not change anything: The Yankees could very well handle the way Machado plays. Consider: He is one of the best hitters of all time, especially at his age. Players who can handle the left side of the home after a season in which they posted a batting average of 297, 37 homers and 107 RBIs in 162 games have never materialized. So it could be a whole topic of conversation – as long as Machado understands that the Yankees will not be calm with him and will not interfere with him.

1 off-season priority for each Yankee

A mea culpa? If Steinbrenner opposes Machado's comment, this could force Machado to issue a statement even before signing up with a team stating that he intends to change his behavior or that he's going to May be poorly expressed and he plays hard, but perhaps in different ways. (Think in terms of preparing or maintaining one's health or defense.)

Other options: The Yankees are obviously telling Machado that it is not their only desire. And there are many options available. Here are some quick non-Machado options to fill the available position – at least half of next season – due to Tommy John's operation of Didi Gregorius:

1. Bring Gleyber Torres on the immediate stop, plug it into the second base.

2. Add a new short stop externally.

3. Promote Tyler Wade or Ronald Torreyes in an everyday role, probably at second base, with Torres coming to a halt until Gregorius returns.

None of these options are as good as just throwing a ton of money at Machado. But there is also an aspect of public relations. Steinbrenner will not hire a player who worries him could embarrass him by not arguing despite a commitment of several hundred million dollars. And he does know that.
