Astros wins the postseason

What had been a formality for months is now official: the defending World Series champions, Astros, are back in the playoffs. The Astros blew the Angels Friday night to carve a place. They will be, at worst, the second team of wild card AL.

The Houston offensive attack was led by first baseman Yuli Gurriel, who beat two homers and made seven points in the night. This includes a first grand slam that gave the Stros a nice, comfortable lead.

Off-season pickup Gerrit Cole allowed three runs in seven innings and pulled out 12. It was his eighth double-digit strike of the season, but only his third in his last 24 starts.

Anyway, the ultimate goal of the Astros is of course to win another world series. A post-season session was the first step in the process. The next step? Win the AL West. There are four games against Athletics, which will play later on Friday, in the defeats column with nine games to play. Houston's magic number for the division's title is six.

Braves at the dawn of division title

With a comeback seventh on Friday night, the Braves are on the brink of winning their first division title since 2013. Ozzie Albies hit a two-run homer and Johan Camargo as part of the team's five-run uprising, which scored a two-point single, allowing a 4-1 deficit to take a 6-4 lead.

Friday's win means that the magic number of Atlanta to win the NL East title is two, and because they will play the Phillies in second place this weekend, a win on Saturday or Sunday will make the # 39; s case. Both teams have five games played this season. The Braves only need to win one of the five to clinch the division.

Bauer returns to the Indians

For the first time since August 11, Trevor Bauer faced the Indian slab on Friday night. He had been sidelined by a broken leg while he was hit by a ghost. Bauer was on a strict pitch account – he launched 34 throws – on his return from the list of disabled people.

Bauer shot 17 shots from 34 shots and generated seven jumps and misses. His fastball reached an average speed of 93.4 mph and was at 95.5 mph on Friday night, which is slightly lower than his average fastball speed of 95.3 mph before the injury. That said, it's not surprising that Bauer is running out of speed after such a long layoff. He always strengthens the strength of his arms.

The Indians predict that Bauer will make two more starts before the end of the regular season in order to strengthen the strength of his arms and increase his number of throws. The team has indicated that it can use Bauer as a relief in the playoffs if he is not in a position to start.

Record of Mets deGrom at 9-9

Folks, NL Cy Young's favorite Jacob deGrom actually has a chance to finish the season with a record of wins. Mets ace shot seven great runs against the Nationals on Friday, even to his season record with a 9-9 record.

Unless the Mets are doing something crazy like throwing it on a short rest or using it out of the paddock, deGrom has a start remaining this year and therefore a chance to finish with a winning record. Pretty crazy for a guy with a 1.77 ERA. In one way or another, the Mets have 13-18 in its 31 starts. Unfathomable.

As long as DeGrom does something better than allowing six points earned without a save on his last start, he will become the sixth pitcher of this century to hit more than 200 runs with an ERA of less than 2.00. The list:

  • Zack Greinke, 2015 Dodgers: 1.66 ERA in 222 2/3 innings
  • Jake Arrieta, 2015 Cubs: 1.74 ERA in 229 sleeves
  • Clayton Kershaw, 2013 Dodgers: 1.83 ERA in 236 rounds
  • Roger Clemens, 2005 Astros: 1.87 ERA in 211 1/3 innings
  • Pedro Martinez, 2000 Red Sox: 1.74 ERA in 217 sleeves

Arrieta, Kershaw and Martinez have all won the Cy Young in seasons less than 2.00 years old. Greinke finished second ahead of Arrieta and Clemens was third behind Chris Carpenter and Dontrelle Willis.

Gurriel brothers gather for four home races

The Gurriel brothers each hit two home runs on Friday night. The first player in the Astros, Yuli Gurriel, hit two homers against the Angels, including a grand slam in his 7-RBI night.

Meanwhile, Yuli's younger brother – and the Blue Jays shortstop – Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit two solo runs against the Rays. That's after beating a two-run circuit as part of Toronto's wild rally, seven innings and ninth, on Thursday night.

Friday was not a bad night to be a Gurriel brother.

Donaldson completes Sale's series of unpaid circuits

No player has more home runs against Chris Sale than Josh Donaldson. On Friday night, Donaldson won Sale for the fifth time in his career. It was his second home race since his exchange with the Indians.

Only three other players have hit at least four career home races against Sale: Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and … Ryan Raburn? Ryan Raburn.

Donaldson's home race on Friday also put an end to the incredible 75-run series of consecutive Sale without allowing a home run. He also broke his scoreless series of 35 innings. Because of the time spent on the list of people with reduced mobility, the undated series of July 6th is June 1st.
