MEMPHIS, Tenn. – More than 18,000 customers were without electricity in the city of Memphis on Sunday afternoon due to a hardware outage.
Most of the customers without electricity were in the downtown area, including 201 poplars, according to the outage map.

MLGW issued a statement saying, "Shortly after 10 am, MLGW experienced a failure of its multi-substance electrical systems in downtown Memphis.
FOX13 viewers say people were also stuck in the elevators of a downtown Memphis hotel.
At 13:00, 15,927 people are without electricity. The teams evaluate the situation and try to restore the current as soon as possible.

MLGW also stated that it was a "tree cutting" in the area.
The statement also states that "MLGW staff are currently assessing this situation to restore power as quickly as possible".
The power was returned to all customers around 17:30.
