A mother in Florida, who said her 2-year-old son had been kidnapped, admitted that he hit the boy, having had seizures, before letting him die in the woods, the authorities said.

Charisse Stinson, 21, admitted during an interrogation by police in Largo that she had hit her son, Jordan Belliveau, in the face "during a moment of frustration" after an unexplained injury to his right leg . Tampa Bay Times.

Stinson then hit Jordan in the face with the back of his hand, throwing his head into a wall of his house and causing him to suffer seizures. The boy's condition worsened on Sunday, which led Stinson to take the boy to a wooded area in the middle of the night and leave him there, according to the affidavit.

Stinson was arrested late Tuesday and is currently being held without bail in Pinellas County Jail on a charge of first degree murder. She is expected to have her first court appearance on Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The investigators spent more than 60 hours searching for the boy in nearby wooded areas, as well as in the ponds and garbage cans near Stinson's apartment. She first told the police that a man named "Antwan" had offered her and her son a ride late Saturday.

In the car, Stinson told the investigators, the man hit her face and knocked him out. When she woke up at Largo Central Park, her son disappeared, she told the police, causing the investigators to issue an Amber Alert and to release a surveillance video of a possible witness and a sketch

Stinson reported that his son had gone early Sunday. His body was found Tuesday afternoon behind a baseball field at Largo Sports Complex, reports the Tampa Bay Times.

"It's a sad end to Jordan's life," Largo's police said on Facebook.
