Monaco won the Ligue 1 in 2017 under the direction of Dmitry Rybolovlev
Monaco's owner, Dmitry Rybolovlev, was arrested in the principality as part of an investigation into alleged corruption cases and other allegations.
Attorney Frank Michel said Rybolovlev was arrested Tuesday in Monaco.
The newspaper The world, who reported for the first time the detention, said that the home of the tycoon had been raided.
Michel is the Monaco lawyer of the Swiss art dealer Yves Bouvier, who lodged a complaint against corruption and money laundering with a lawyer from Rybolovlev.
Rybolovlev's lawyers, who earned his fortune by making potassium-based fertilizers, will not say, when asked on Wednesday morning, whether their client is still in detention.
They acknowledged Tuesday that he was being interrogated.

The Russian embassy in Paris, which oversees Monaco, said it was aware of the detention and asked the Monegasque authorities for information but received no response.
Rybolovlev saved Monaco from bankruptcy by buying the club in 2011. He has since overseen a period of success, the club returning to first place in France and eventually winning the title 2016-17.
Monaco finished finalist of Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 last season but is currently 19th in the table after a bad start to the season.
Thierry Henry was named head coach last month, but he has not won in five games at the helm.
Monaco has experienced one of the worst results of the season so far. A 4-0 home defeat against Club Brugge has ended its hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
