More drama, surprises on week 13

[ad_1]

Overall, the 2018 university football season was held as planned.

Alabama and Clemson appear to be on the right track to compete in a new national championship.

For the second consecutive season, Georgia is in the style of Crimson Tide, this time in next week's SEC championship match in Atlanta.

But the last full weekend of the regular season has finally yielded unexpected results and dramas. The state of Ohio has spoiled the title of the Michigan Big Ten and the dreams of college football play-offs with a rout that neither side will forget.

And by the end of Saturday night, LSU and Texas A & M had played seven times longer before the Aggies flew away with a win of 74-72, the biggest match in FBS history.

Here is the power ranking for the 13th week, in anticipation of next week's conference league matches:

1. Alabama (12-0, 8-0 SEC)

The reigning National Champion, Alabama, dominated his opponents with a 52-21 Auburn defeat at the Iron Bowl on Saturday. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Crimson Tide will be heading to next week's SEC championship game against Georgia after winning each of their first 12 games of 20 points or more, a first in the world. AP polls. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made a big contribution to finishing the Heisman Trophy with another record-breaking performance against the Tigers. He completed 25 of 32 passes for 324 yards with five touchdowns and one scoring. He is the first player in Alabama history to score six touchdowns in a game. The tide scored 50 points or more in eight games this season, which is tied for second place in the AP polls era (Oklahoma's team in 2008 had nine games of this type ) and the largest number in the history of the SEC.

2. Clemson (12-0, 8-0 ACC)

After dismantling their South Carolina rival 56-35 on Saturday night in the most marked match in the history of the Palmetto Series, the Tigers are one step closer to reaching the PSC for the fourth consecutive season. The Tigers will face Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship game in Charlotte, North Carolina next week. The Gamecocks revealed a potential deficiency in the playoffs. South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley threw for 510 yards – the second highest total ever awarded by the Tigers – with five touchdowns. This is the highest number of points the Tigers have conceded in 28 games since a 42-35 win over Virginia Tech in the 2016 ACC match.

3. Our Lady (12-0)

The struggling Irish practically beat their first ticket with a 24-17 win at USC on Saturday night. The result was a little tighter than expected and the Irish had to come back from a 10 point deficit in the first period, but they only needed to win. It's the fourth time in 50 years that they have finished an unbeaten regular season. The Irish have already done it twice under coach Brian Kelly. they went 12-0 in 2012 before losing to Alabama 42-14 at the BCS National Championship. Kelly is only the fourth coach in the history of Notre Dame to have several undefeated regular seasons, joining Knute Rockne, Frank Leahy and Ara Parseghian. Quarterback Ian Book racked up 352 career rushing yards by beating the Trojans, becoming the first player in Notre Dame to score 300 against USC in the last 20 years.

4. Georgia (11-1, 7-1 SEC)

After dismantling rival Georgia Tech 45-21 on Saturday, the Bulldogs will have another chance to travel to Alabama in next week's SEC Championship game. Georgia are still in the 26-23 overtime loss to Crimson Tide in the National University Football Championship, where they lost a pair of 13-point advances and made the 41-yard touchdown pass at Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith – second-and-26 – in the final part of the game. Georgia seems to have peaked at the right time, winning each of its last five games by 17 points or more. Quarterback Jake Fromm threw four touchdowns against the Yellow Jackets, and the UGA defense only gave up 128 yards to the FBS's number-one attack.

5. Ohio State (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten)

Say what you want from Ohio State's Urban Meyer, but few coaches thrive further when their teams are neglected. Ohio State has improved to 7-0 as underdog under Meyer with Saturday's superb rout of 62-39 Michigan. He has won six of those seven games with a touchdown or more. After losing 29 points to Purdue, then defeated to beat Nebraska and Maryland (in overtime!), The Buckeyes are suddenly at a victory of one perhaps to make a further fall in the CFP. Ohio State faces Northwestern in the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis next week. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins was sensational against what had been the # 1 defense of the FBS. He became the first quartermender to hit five touchdowns against Michigan (who had seven touchdowns throughout the season) and broke Big Ten records in one season for most touchdowns and yards.

6. Oklahoma (11-1, 8-1 Big 12)

It may be the Big 12 conference that owes its apology to Texas linebacker Breckyn Hager. Hager was reprimanded a week ago for stating, among other things, that "OR has no defense". Well, the Sooners certainly did not do anything in the 59-56 win on Friday night in West Virginia to shut him up. OR conceded 33 first duels and 704 offensive yards, including 539 at the expense, in his wild victory. The Sooners have lost at least 40 points in each of their last four games while winning. They are the only team since the AP poll that began in 1936 to win four consecutive games while awarding at least 40 points to each victory. They will have the opportunity to prove that Hager is wrong when they will face the Longhorns in the Big 12 Championship game next week.

7. UCF (American 11-0, 8-0)

The Knights won their 24th consecutive game with a 38-10 victory at USF on Friday, but their last win was expensive. Star quarterback McKenzie Milton suffered a "traumatic" injury to his right leg as he struggled in the second quarter. His father told ESPN that he had been operated on emergency Friday to repair his right knee and for other internal problems. Milton was 2663 yards with 25 touchdowns and 307 yards with nine goals in nine starts. The Knights will face Memphis at the US Track Conference next week, with another trip to Six's New Year's bowl. Rookie Darriel Mack Jr., who has attempted 43 passes this season, should be the star.

8. Michigan (10-2, 8-1 Big Ten)

With everything on The Game Saturday – a match for the Big Ten Championship game, a potential spot in the CFP and a chance to finally defeat his rival, Ohio State – the Wolverines could not have looked worse. Michigan lost 62 points – the most he ever lost in a game without an overtime dating back to 1891 – and 567 offensive yards. Coach Jim Harbaugh fell to 0-4 against the Buckeyes, who have won seven straight games in the series and 14 out of 15 overall. If Ohio State slips into the PCP, the Wolverines could still end up in the Rose Bowl presented by Northwestern Mutual. If the Buckeyes are left out, Michigan still seems like a safe bet for a New Year's bowl, maybe the Chick-fil-A fishing bowl

9. Texas (9-3, 7-2 Big 12)

The Longhorns may have been surprised in anticipation of the Big 12 championship game next week. They almost lost a 21-0 lead in Kansas before retaining a 24-17 victory on Friday. After their third consecutive victory, they will have a rematch against Oklahoma at the AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Longhorns defeated the Sooners 48-45 in Dallas on October 6; they almost lost a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter before Cameron Dicker scored a 40-yard throw at nine seconds. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the winners of the regular season win 25-15 players in conference broadcasts, including a 5-2 record last year.

10. Washington (9-3, 7-2 Pac-12)

The Huskies spoiled Washington's Pac-12 North title, hoping for a third season in a row, beating the Cougars 28-15 at the Apple Cup on Friday night. Although the Huskies have not achieved their PCP goals, they will have a chance to win their second Pac-12 title in three seasons by playing Utah in the Pac-12 championship game of the week in Santa Clara , in California. The Huskies defeated Utes 21-7 in Salt Lake City on Sept. 15; they are 1-11 against all time. The only Utes victory was a 34-23 win at Seattle in 2015. The winner will compete in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual.

11. Washington State (10-2, 7-2 Pac-12)

The CFP and Pac-12 title hopes of the Cougars collapsed with a 28-15 loss to their Washington rival Friday night, their sixth consecutive loss in the Apple Cup. While the Huskies take hold of the Pac-12 North title, Washington State still seems to be heading for a New Year's Bowl, possibly the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, on New Year's Day. The feeble Heisman trophy for Quarterback Mnershew goalkeepers, Cougars, is probably over. He completed 26 of his 35 passes for 152 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss, while coach Mike Leach's offensive attack on the air raid was struggling to survive in the snow.

12. Florida (9-3, 5-3 SEC)

The Gators put an exclamation point on their rebound season under freshman Dan Mullen by ending a five-game losing streak against Florida State with a 41-14 win. That was the biggest win of the Gators on the Seminoles since a 37-10 win in 2009, when Tim Tebow was their quarterback. Under Mullen, the Gators went from 4-7 in 2017 to 9-3 this season. They assured FSU of their first losing season since 1976 and prevented them from playing a bowling game for the first time since 1982. By winning their last three games, the Gators could head to a New Year bowling of the Six.

13. Penn State (9-3, 6-3 Big Ten)

The Nittany Lions sent quarterback Trace McSorley and the rest of their senior class with a 38-3 loss to Maryland, which should keep them in the running for a spot in the Six Bowl New Year. McSorley has amassed 230 yards with one touchdown and two more points to improve to 31-8 as a starter, making him the winning quarterback in PSU history. The Nittany Lions have dropped 10 points or less in each of their last three games – against Wisconsin, Rutgers and Maryland. They had 15 tackles for the defeat against the Terrapins.

14. LSU (9-3, 5-3 SEC)

The Tigers will not forget their 74-72 loss to Texas A & M in seven extra times on Saturday night. The Tigers Orchestras eliminated coach Ed Orgeron with Gatorade after appearing to intercept Kellen Mond's pass while he remained 29 seconds to play. But the officials decided that Mond's knee had fallen due to a bad slam before throwing the ball. He converted a fourth and eighteenth position, then scored a 19-yard touchdown to Quartney Davis in the final regular game, after the officials had one second behind the clock, to tie at 31. The teams combined for 84 points in overtime, before the Aggies finally win on a two-point conversion. The loss cost LSU a tenth win and may well put the Tigers out of the game for six New Year games.

15. Kentucky (9-3, 5-3 SEC)

The Wildcats nearly won their first SEC East title, but it was a hell of a season, culminating in a 56-10 loss to rival Louisville on Saturday night. That was the second biggest win of the UK in the Governor's Cup series; he won 73-0 in 1922. The Wildcats won at least nine regular season games for the fourth time only in the history of the school and the first since 1977. They won six games against eligible opponents at the cut and finished on a score of 5-3 against the SEC. . Given its momentum, Kentucky may head to the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day, where it will attempt to win its first playoff victory after defeating East Carolina 25-19 at the Liberty Bowl after the 2008 season.

16. West Virginia (8-3, 6-3 Big 12)

One of the best teams in West Virginia's history will be remembered for beating Oklahoma and reaching the Big 12 championship for the first time, which is a shame, the coach said. Dana Holgorsen. The Mountaineers lost two fumbles that the Sooners picked up and returned for touchdowns, and a few points were removed from the chart with dubious penalties. West Virginia's Will Grier (539 yards passing, four touchdowns and no interception) has become the third quarterback of Power 5 over the last 15 seasons to lose a game with at least 500 yards, four affected and no interception, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The second consecutive defeat of West Virginia will most likely keep it in the New Year round for the seventh consecutive season.

17. Utah (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12)

The Utes beat the 20-point deficit Saturday night twice to defeat their rival BYU 35-27 in a holy war that will not be forgotten anytime soon. Utah led 27-7 at the end of the third quarter, but then scored 28 points in a row, including quarterback Jason Shelley's 33-yard pass with 1:43 left. It was Utah's eighth consecutive victory over the Cougars and his biggest comeback since his 29-27 win over New Mexico on a 27-point deficit on Oct. 10, 1990. The Utes have won six of their seven games before Friday's game. -12 league match against Washington.

18. Syracuse (9-3, 6-2 ACC)

The Orange recovered from the loss to Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium last week by clocking 42-21 at Boston College. He also finished second in ACC, behind No. 2 Clemson, after being chosen to finish last in the championship. Atlantic Division in preseason. Quarterback Eric Dungey, who missed most of last week's game because of a low back injury, recovered 362 yards with three touchdowns and scored three more goals. He became the third player in the school's history to count six touchdowns in one game; Jim Brown (1956) and Zack Mahoney (2016) are the others.

19. Texas A & M (8-4, 5-3 SEC)

The Aggies survived their victory over LSU in five hours and seven overtime and finished 8-4 under coach Jimbo Fisher. At the very least, this spectacular victory will change the perception of Fisher's first season at College Station. The Aggies have won their last three regular season games and six of their last eight games, after fainting in the right path over the previous three seasons under the orders of former coach Kevin Sumlin. Quarterback Kellen Mond made six touchdowns against LSU, the second highest total of a Texas A & M player. After this memorable win, the Aggies could play in one of three bowl based games. Florida: Citrus, TaxSlayer Gator or Outback. They have not played bowl games in the Sunshine State since their 3-0 loss to Tennessee at the 1957 Gator Bowl, which was Bear Bryant's final match as an Aggies coach.

20. Northwest (8-4, 8-1 Big Ten)

The Wildcats jumped on early Illinois and held on for a 24-16 win. Now, Northwestern can focus on next week's clash against the Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game. Northwestern won its eleventh consecutive game against a Big Ten West foe and won eight conference games for the first time since 1995. The Wildcats will have their hands full against the Buckeyes, who beat them six straight and dominated the series since the late 1960s. In fact, Northwestern's only win in the series since 1972 was a surprise 33-27 from the previous issue. 6 Buckeyes in overtime on November 2, 2004, which ended a series of 24 defeats against OSU. The Buckeyes have won the last six games since.

21. State of Mississippi (8-4, 4-4 SEC)

The freshman, Joe Moorhead, said he hoped the Bulldogs would not participate in Haley's Comet plan, in which they won a championship every 76 years. For the moment, he will have to settle for another victory over Egg Bowl against his rival Ole Miss. A fight and four ejections spoiled the state's 35-3 victory over the Rebels on Thursday night. Moorhead became the MSU's first coach to win eight games in his first season since 1939. The Bulldogs seem to be about to head to a bowl of New Year's Day, possibly the Outback Bowl at Tampa, Florida.

22. Boise State (10-2, 7-1 MWC)

The Broncos ended Utah State's 10-game winning streak with a 33-24 win over blue turf at Albertsons Stadium on Saturday night. With this victory, Boise State won the MWC Mountain Division title and will host the state of Fresno in the MWC Championship game next week. The Broncos will attempt to win two consecutive titles at the MWC – they beat the Bulldogs 17-14 in last season's title game – and their third place in the past five seasons. Junior back Alexander Mattison totaled 200 yards with three touchdowns in 37 runs. His 59-yard run in the final two minutes helped the Broncos put away the Aggies for good.

23. State of Iowa (7-4, 6-3 Big 12)

The Cyclones scored 21 unanswered points to clear a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter of a 42-38 win over Kansas State on Saturday night. Iowa State tied the school's biggest comeback in the fourth quarter and ended a 10-game losing streak against the Wildcats. The Cyclones finished 6-3 against Big 12, their best conference result. Iowa State will face Drake against the FCS next week after canceling its first game against South Dakota on September 1 because of bad weather. The Cyclones have won six of their last seven games after starting in 1-3.

24. Cincinnati (10-2, 6-2 American)

The Bearcats continued their drive under second-year coach Luke Fickell, surpassing the number of wins in the past two seasons, combined with a 56-6 defeat of East Carolina. Friday. After winning just four games in each of the previous two seasons, Cincinnati has won ten games for the first time since 2012 and will play its first bowl game since 2015. The Bearcats have dominated the Pirates, though they're not the best. Have no half-star Michael Warren II, who was put away because of an injury to the shoulder.

25. Army (9-2)

The Army has two weeks off to prepare for the December 8th showdown against the Navy at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The Black Knights have won seven straight games since losing 28-21 in overtime to Oklahoma on September 22.
