Hundreds of flights to the San Francisco International Airport were delayed or canceled during the weekend, as two busy tracks were closed for maintenance.

There were 118 cancellations and 467 flights delayed on Saturday. At noon on Sunday, there were four cancellations and 61 delays, said Shawn Miyaki, airport services manager at SFO.

The teams worked on the structure under the sidewalk "in anticipation of holiday traffic and rainy winter conditions," according to a press release from the airport. Miyaki said all the work had been completed on schedule. He did not have any additional details on the work done.

Miyaki said it was unclear how many delays and cancellations were due to the maintenance of the track.

The affected runways, 28L and 01R, are among the busiest at the airport. Runway 28L was closed from Saturday at 1:00 pm to Saturday at 1:00 pm. Runway 01R was closed on Saturdays from 13:00 to 23:00.

"The intersection of two runways is among the most used surfaces of the OFS," said Ivar Satero, director of the OFS airport in a statement. "This weekend, the track maintenance works will help ensure that this high-traffic area remains available during our busy holiday season and rainy days." I appreciate the patience and understanding of travelers during this closing. "

American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and JetBlue are among the airlines involved, according to social media.
