LONDON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) – According to the new poll published by Action on, there are currently 3.2 million users of electronic cigarettes, or vapers, in Britain. Smoking and Health (ASH), a public health charity.
More than 12,000 adults were interviewed during the survey. More than half of the vapers have stopped smoking and 40% are smokers trying to quit.
There has been rapid growth in the number of local vaper in recent years. The number for 2018 is already more than four times higher than in 2012.
But ASH still found that about one-third of smokers said they'd never even tried an e-cigarette, with addiction concerns top of the list of why they have not tried it.
The Public Health England (PHE) government has proposed that electronic cigarettes be available on prescription in the coming years to help people quit smoking. An independent report published by the PHE shows that e-cigarettes are at least 95% less harmful than smoking.
"UK policy is on the right track with thousands of smokers switching to vaping and improving their health and little sign of non-smokers taking vaping," said Deborah Arnott, Executive Director of ASH .
