"Morning Joe" welcomes Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski at the annual Hot Stove Cool Music show at Paradise.

NEW YORK – Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' are now co-hosts and spouses.

The network says the couple is married Saturday at a small ceremony attended by family members and friends in Washington.

They tied the knot at the National Archives with the American representative Elijah Cummings, of Maryland, who officiated.

Scarborough and Brzezinski announced their commitment in May 2017. They do not talk much about their personal relationship on the air but have relaxed over time.

At a conference in New York in September for his book "Know Your Value," Brzezinski said the wedding was about to start soon and he was going to be "awesome".

This is Scarborough's third marriage and Brzezinski's second.

Vanity Fair was the first to report the wedding. The photos in the publication showed the pair cutting a 20-layer traditional French crêpe wedding cake. Brzezinski apparently wore a long dress like Milly tea with polka dot lace sleeves, while Scarborough wore a black suit from the rotation of his show.

"We wanted it to be really small and simple and not what you expected from Mika and Joe," Brzezinski said Saturday, according to Vanity Fair. "Everything we do is exposed, and everything feels exposed at every stage of the process. So we want it to be private until it's over. We wanted to recognize it more gently and make sure that the people who matter most to us are surrounded by us. And you know, our show is a cocktail every morning. "

"We made the decision a year ago to radically change our lives and to have a quiet existence," Scarborough said, according to Vanity Fair. "The more time we spend with our family, the happier we are."

The National Archives Building is normally closed to the public on Saturdays, but was opened to accommodate the couple and five guests, as well as their children, according to Vanity Fair. It was also the first time that a wedding was taking place there.

After the ceremony, the couple celebrated with around forty people at a reception at Chez Billy Sud, according to Vanity Fair. The couple would also take the week for a mini-honeymoon.

Brzezinski told a reporter that she was considering changing her name.

Scarborough had offered Brzezinski an oval diamond ring last May in Antibes, France, on a trip to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Brzezinski, according to Vanity Fair.
