Warren and East Providence, June 11.
Alan Gettman, coordinator of the state's mosquito control, says that it is unusual to find the virus so early. The ministry is urging people to prevent mosquito bites by using a repellent, inspecting nets, wearing long sleeves and pants, repairing holes in mosquito nets and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds.
Rhode Island is also testing mosquitoes for West Nile virus, which has not been found yet.
