The mother of a black man who was shot by a white policeman in Dallas after taking his apartment on his behalf, wondered if the race played a role in the tragedy.
In an interview Friday, Allison Jean appeared to imply – after learning that the white officer woman had killed her son, 26-year-old Botham Jean – that the events could have unfolded differently if he had also been white.
"I did not know that she was white right now.If he was a white man, would he have been different? Would she have reacted differently?" she asked KXAS.

The anonymous officer, who arrived at his apartment in uniform after doing a shift on Thursday night, called the dispatch to report the shooting. And she told the police that she thought the victim's apartment had been hers when she entered.
Jean was taken to a hospital in the area where he was pronounced dead.
The manner in which the officer entered the apartment or what other factors could lead to the shooting were not clearly defined.
The officer involved was placed on administrative leave while the Dallas District Police Service and District Attorney's Office conducted a joint investigation.
Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall said on Friday that the officer would be charged with manslaughter, but that Saturday afternoon the warrant was not issued; The Texas Rangers, who are conducting an independent investigation, asked the department to stand aside because they needed more time to review the shots.
John attended Harding University in Arkansas and, after graduating in 2016, he lived and worked in Dallas at PwC. The private school said Friday that he often ran the campus worship services while he was a student.
