NEW YORK – MTV's "The Real World" long-running reality show is going digital and international.
The network announced Wednesday that its production studio would work with Facebook Watch to create new editions of the series next year aimed at the American, Mexican and Thai audiences. The series, which describes the adventures of young aliens placed in a house together, will be broadcast on Facebook Watch.
The social media platform will also try to connect fans to the show participants with Facebook Live, watch parties and other innovations. MTV President Chris McCarthy said it was an opportunity to create a new kind of television.
"The Real World" aired 32 times on MTV between 1992 and 2017. This is the first time that it will broadcast international editions with non-US actors.
