Former Trump campaign president, Paul Manafort, has lied to the FBI and Special Adviser Robert Mueller's office "on a variety of topics" since his plea agreement early this year, violating the law. Agreement, Mueller said in a document tabled Monday night, adding that Manafort says that he was truthful.
Manafort, aged 69, has been convicted of several counts of financial fraud over the summer for work completed in Ukraine as a political consultant. In September, in the lead-up to a separate trial for similar charges, he entered into an agreement with the government whereby he was expected to answer questions on a wide range of topics. Manafort remains imprisoned and faces at least 10 years in prison.
Mueller's joint status report stated that both parties had requested that a date of conviction be set without delay.
"After signing the plea agreement, Manafort committed federal crimes by lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigations and to the special council office on various topics, which constitute violations of the agreement," said the Mueller office.
According to the report, however, Manafort challenged the statements of the special council.
"Manafort has met with the government many times and answered questions from the government," the report says, citing the former president. "Manafort has provided information to the government in order to fulfill its cooperation obligations and believes it has provided truthful information and does not share the government's description or breach of the agreement."

However, Mueller's office stated that he would "file a detailed sentencing statement before sentencing to the probation department and the court, which would outline the nature of the accused's crimes and lies, including those signed after the signing of the plea agreement ".
Manafort has been convicted of 8 counts in the eastern district of Virginia and sentencing in this case is scheduled for early February.
