Note: MLive's Aaron McMann is one of two state writers in the state of Michigan to vote in the weekly AP 25 college football poll.
The good thing about voting every week is to be able to track some of these other programs and the quality of their winnings.
Because neither Michigan nor Michigan State have achieved an impressive performance on Saturday.
Michigan came back strong after a 17-0 deficit on the Northwest Highway, 20-17, while it took a quarter and a half to MSU to head for Central Michigan. And even then, a fourth quarter of 17 points for CMU made this match closer than necessary.
As a result, neither of these schools made progress in this week's Top AP poll. I kept Michigan at # 15, behind Penn State (# 12) and Wisconsin (# 13), and the MSU at # 18.
Michigan falls into the national rankings after Northwestern's victory
Both teams still have some work to do, clearly, and things are not getting any better.
Ohio State (5-0) remains the best team in the Big Ten, and we saw it on Saturday when it managed a comeback in the fourth quarter at Happy Valley. With the win, the Buckeyes moved to third place on my ballot.
An unconvincing victory over Syracuse and QB's concerns drove Clemson down to fourth place and down. Notre Dame also seems to win after the most impressive win of the weekend, I thought, a 38-17 victory over Stanford.
GREATEST JUMP: West Virginia (+4). The Mountaineers and their fast, high – octane attack could be the real deal this year. They took a quick start at Texas Tech and led, 35-10, at halftime. Their next test will not be before Nov. 3 in Texas, with the Big 12 possibly to a Nov. 23 game against Oklahoma.
BIGGER DROP: Stanford (-11). It could have been too hard, but Notre Dame was clearly the best team here. Could Fighting Irish be a candidate for the PSC, or was the cardinal just overrated?
