KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak arrived at the KL Court Complex to support his deputy Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who was expected to be charged with criminal offenses.

Najib, who arrived at about 9.18am in white Toyota Vellfire, smiled and waved to the media before heading to the second level of the building.

Zahid was expected to be charged with 40 charges related to money laundering, abuse of power, and criminal breach of trust.

The Umno president was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after giving his statement at its headquarters yesterday.

The Bagan Datuk member of parliament would be responsible under MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceedings of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFAPUAA) 2001.

Zahid had previously been summed up by the MACC to assist with the investigation of misappropriation of funds involving Yayasan Akal Budi, to the tune of RM800,000.

Earlier, the situation in front of the court complex became intense as Zahid's supporters marched towards the main gate and tried to break into the building.

The group, however, was stopped by the police who were guarding the main gate.
