Napa County's Snell Fire reaches 2,400 acres as firefighters gain ground with 20 per cent containment

NAPA COUNTY, California (KGO) –

More than 1,000 firefighters fought Sunday against Snell Fire in northeastern Napa County after burning 2,400 acres near Berryessa Estates.

The fire started Saturday afternoon and exploded at night. Cal Fire was making drops of water from helicopters fighting fire.

"The day is getting warmer, a little breeze is coming up and we are starting to see a fire activity there," said Jonathan Cox, Cal Fire Battalion Leader.

200 houses remained under threat and mandatory evacuation orders remained in place.

"Hot, windy, crazy and chaotic," said Chris Anderegg.

Anderegg and his wife evacuated their home safely Saturday.

"My wife is pregnant and I had to take her out of the house," said Anderegg. "The baby must arrive in February," he added.

No injuries were reported and no structure was lost.

Cal Fire says that the cause of the fire is in the study.

An evacuation center has been set up at Pope Valley Farm Center, located at 5800 Pope Valley Road, in the Pope Valley, California, said the Napa County Sheriff's Office. Another center was opened at Calistoga Exhibition Center, 1435 North Oak Street, Calistoga, for affected residents.
