CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (WVIR) –
A NASA astronaut who spent six months in space while working on the International Space Station was at the University of Virginia Medical School on Monday, sharing his experiences with students.
US Navy Captain Scott Tingle was an engineer on board the International Space Station. He travels the country to encourage students to follow his example.
Tingle was hired by NASA in 2009 and was aboard the International Space Station from December 2017 to June 2018. The Navy Captain conducted hundreds of experiments during the mission.
Tingle hopes to encourage students from all walks of life to participate in NASA's programs.
"Follow your heart.If there is something that really motivates you, follow your heart," said Captain Tingle. "With regard to NASA's programs, our goal is to incite all the world to do exactly that. "
On Monday afternoon, Tingle spoke to medical students and told them about the physical fit that the body performs while it is in space.
Tingle does not have a mission currently planned, but hopes that his story will inspire students to set ambitious goals.
