NASA is preparing to present two space marches of the International Space Station

Astronauts on the International Space Station will make spacewalks on September 23 and 29 to continue improving the laboratory's power system in orbit. NASA experts will present this work in a briefing at 2 pm EDT Tuesday, September 18th at Johnson Space Center of NASA in Houston.
Live coverage of the briefing and spacewalks will be broadcast on NASA Television and on the agency's website. Media wishing to participate in the in-person briefing must request credentials from Johnson's editorial office no later than 4:00 pm Monday, September 17th. The participants in the briefing are:
Kenneth Todd, Director of the International Space Station for Operations and Integration
Mary Lawrence, flight director in space
Jaclyn Kagey, Head of Space Outings
Troy McCracken, Head of Robotics in Space
The equipment to be installed will be delivered on a Japanese H-II loader. Installation work will begin on Earth, when the ground controllers will use the station's robotic arm to replace the old nickel-hydrogen batteries on the resort's harbor farm with six new lithium-ion batteries.
NASA station commander Drew Feustel and flight engineer Alexander Gerst of ESA (European Space Agency) will venture out of the Quest airlock on Sunday, September 23 to install the adapter plates of the new batteries.
With his spacewalk, the 10th of his career, Feustel will put an American astronaut in the spotlight on former astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria. the history of spaceflight. This will be the second outing in the Gerst space.
Six days later, on Saturday, September 29, NASA flight engineer Ricky Arnold will join Gerst to complete the refurbishment of the port's power grid. This will be Arnold's sixth spacewalk.
Coverage of spacewalks will begin at NASA TV and the agency's website at 6:30 am, with both outings scheduled to start around 8 am and last about 6 1/2 hours. These space walks will be the 213th and 214th supporting the assembly, maintenance and upgrades of the station; and the eighth and ninth out of the station this year.
