NASA News: A space agency confirms that an EXPLOSE asteroid on Moscow in Russia

The rock of bright space was spotted on June 21 in several cities – including Lipetsk, which is southeast of Moscow.

The fast fireball produced an amazing smoke trail that remained visible for several minutes.

NASA's sensors have detected that the space rock caused an explosion equivalent to 2.8kilotons – making it the most explosive asteroid entry measured up to now in 2018.

The US space agency said that the event occurred at 1.16h UTC.

The size of the explosion corresponds to the disintegration of a small asteroid about 13 feet (4 meters) in diameter.

This size is in contrast with the estimated 65 feet (20 meters) asteroid that exploded in the air over Chelyabinsk, Russia, in February 2013.

The explosion injured nearly 1,500 people and damaged more than 7,000 buildings.

There has been no report of damage from the blast, but some eyewitnesses have reported hearing a loud sonic boom, according to the international Meteor organization.

"It was beautiful," wrote a witness on Twitter.

Another said, "Sounded like a boom".

Infrasound sensor detectors recorded the low frequencies produced by the explosion of the space rock as it entered the Earth's atmosphere.

Although intense friction with air has caused the disruption of most of the space rock, it is possible that small fragments have reached the surface of the Earth.

NASA estimates that the meteor was moving at around 32,200 mph (51,800 kilometers per hour) when it exploded about 16.7 miles (27 kilometers) above the surface of the planet.

Fireballs are a relatively regular occurrence, often coinciding with meteor showers.

The Chelyabinsk fireball in 2013 was by far the most powerful of the last 30 years, but it is thought that the impact is even stronger in Siberia in 1908.

NASA recently unveiled its latest plans to protect the Earth from potentially dangerous space rocks.

He said that there are thousands of asteroids that have still not been detected.

To date, astronomers have discovered more than 18,000 objects close to Earth (NEO).

IMPACT: A massive meteor crashed in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk in 2013

Only this year nearly 500 objects of this type have been identified.

The space agency is preparing for the arrival of the huge asteroid Bennu.

This space rock would be the size of the Empire State Building.

This would have devastating effects on civilization as we know it if it were to crash with Earth.
