Parker's ground team discovered shortly after launch that the probe was capable of a higher downlink rate. In fact, they are taking advantage of this possibility by asking the probe to send even more data from the second meeting in April. During this event, the four scientific instrument suites of the Space Shuttle were busy gathering information. This is why the mission team expects to receive an additional 25 GB of scientific data between July 24 and August 15.
The mission team will release data from the first two meetings later this year. Before this happens, the spacecraft will conduct its third flyby, which will begin on August 27th and reach its closest approach on September 1st. The researchers hope that the mission will gather the information it needs to solve some of the sun's greatest mysteries, including explaining why its crown (its aura of plasma) is much hotter than its visible surface.
