The Wild League run of the National League is brightening up, with three teams fighting for two places, and a few others who have a chance if things break.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night in the opening game of a four-game series at Stade Busch in St. Louis. This resulted in Los Angeles in a Cardinals match for second place Wild Card.
Both teams lead the Milwaukee Brewers, ranking first in the Wild Card rankings, but looking for more.

The Brewers have been in first place in the Central League National for 67 days this season, but they have fallen behind since the All-Star game. However, after losing a season, six more than the Cubs, on August 28, Milwaukee has risen to less than 1½ game in the division with 11 wins in 14 games.
With the Cardinals and Dodgers playing three more games this weekend, one of these two teams will end with at least 68 defeats. In the event that one or both win the rest of their matches, Milwaukee would need 11 more wins to clinch a playoff spot.
The Dodgers are in a division battle on their side, trailing the Colorado Rockies by a game and a half in the Western National League.
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Philadelphia Phillies have spent weeks in first place in their division this year, but a late defeat brought both teams into the Wild Card fray, with a tough battle for both. .
If the Diamondbacks or the Phillies do not pick it up quickly, we end up with five teams – counting the Cubs and the Rockies – for four places in the playoffs. Stay tuned.
