National Recalled Beef sold at Safeway, Sam's Club and Meijer

Cargill Meat Solutions has issued a recall of 132,606 pounds of minced meat due to a deadly outbreak of E. coli, said the US Department of Agriculture last week.

Eighteen people contracted E illness. Coli related to this meat. One of them is dead.

Cargill Meat Solutions provides ground beef to several national stories, including Safeway, Sam's Club and Meijer.

The recalled meat, which could be contaminated with E. coli, comes from the carcass core portion and was produced on June 21st. The USDA inspection mark on the package says "IS. 86R "inside. The products have been distributed throughout the country.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, diseases have been reported in four states: Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts and Tennessee. Sick people experienced symptoms between 5 and 25 July.

According to the CDC, the symptoms of E. Coli begin between one and ten days after consuming contaminated food or drinks, but most people get sick three to four days after exposure.

Symptoms may include sometimes bloody diarrhea, vomiting and fever. Most people recover after five to seven days. Some people, about 5 to 10%, develop kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome.

A recall of minced meat products from the same Colorado company was announced in August for minced meat products sold at Publix. At the time, the company reported E. coli diseases, but no deaths.

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service "is concerned that some products may be frozen and in consumer freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to consume them. These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase, "said the recall announcement released Wednesday.

The agency reminded consumers to use a meat thermometer to ensure an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit, which is necessary to kill bacteria that can cause disease.
