As always, the best part of watching something involving the NBA was to see how Twitter responded to it.

The NBA season is officially over.

Yes, the Warriors won the championship more than a week ago, but Monday's NBA awards have focused on the 2017-18 season.

It was the second year of the event, and the combination of the host Anthony Anderson and the Inside the NBA the crew was exactly what we needed before the free agency started next week.

From the red carpet before the show, to the answers to some of the prizes awarded to Bill Russell beating Charles Barkley, the 2018 NBA Awards had it all.

Check back on some of the best moments of the night.

The first prize of the evening was Rookie of the Year, who went to Ben Simmons of the 76ers. Donovan Mitchell, of Simmons and Jazz, had a nice public battle for the prize, which included Adidas who was doing everything to push Mitchell. But when Simmons won the honor, the marketing campaign used by Adidas was reversed.

Another highlight of the evening came after Dwane Casey was named coach of the year for leading the Raptors to a 59-23 record and seeded in the East. The Toronto season is over thanks to a sweep in the second round of the playoffs by the Cavaliers who cost Casey his job. But that did not stop his former team and his new team from congratulating him on the prize.

It was a little less embarrassing then when the Raptors praised Casey for being named finalist for the prize less than a week after firing him.

And then there was the thing with Bill Russell returning the bird to Charles Barkley.

And there was James Harden who eventually won the MVP to make the Thunder the only team to write MVPs in consecutive seasons with Kevin Durant (2007), Russell Westbrook (2008) and Harden (2009). It's a shame they're not playing together anymore.

Well, you can relax now for NBA fans. The free agency starts on July 1st.
