The NBA released nine of its 2018-19 "City Edition" uniforms Thursday afternoon, starting with the 76ers October 30. Some teams chose to be bold and avoid all their color scheme, while others played cautiously, opting for a singular color change or a monochromatic thread.
So who leads the pack among the nine City Edition jerseys published to date? Check our ranking (very scientific), which we will update as other teams publish their uniforms.
9. Detroit Pistons
The gray stripe is an interesting hint to the Detroit auto industry, but these uniforms, just like watching the Pistons without Blake Griffin, are as boring as possible.
8. Orlando Magic
Orlando deserves accessories for the starry sides, which blend well with the shooting star logo. Other than that, there is not much to love or be excited about.
7. Charlotte Hornets
I consider that the Hornet jersey without the teal in the old is a personal affront. It is therefore of little use to use these dreary uniforms. The Hornets may be trying to intimidate opposing teams with a darker look, but it's hard to cope with Frank Kaminsky and Cody Zeller patrolling the painting.
6. Brooklyn Nets
The Nets should have gone further here and completely eliminate the black and white model. However, the uniform evolution of Brookyn will never be truly complete until she has completed her Swamp Dragons fate.
5. Chicago Bulls
Black plays well with teal and the four stars are a nice allusion to the history of the city. Chicago often has the cleanest threads in the league and it's no different.
4. Thunder from Oklahoma City
Finally, a team is not afraid to kiss a color. The Thunder has had a monstrous past, making it an important step in the right direction. Accessories to embrace the legacy of Oklahoma, with elegant head signs in the lettering and choice of turquoise. These uniforms should also be associated with the Thunder Court.
3. Philadelphia 76ers
Gray may be a risk, but the 76ers' use is more like a thoughtful decision than a lazy one. The Philly shirt looks cut into the same fabric as that of a Rocky Balboa sweatsand the 13 stars add a beautiful reference to the foundation of the nation. Big accessories for the red-white and blue belt.
2. Minnesota Timberwolves
The most daring creation to date, Minnesota, renders a near-perfect tribute to Prince with his "Purple Rain" sweaters. This goes completely against Minnesota's traditional color scheme – something more teams should do – and black is the right choice for a purple combination. My only complaint: the edges of the shirt are a little pink. A darker shade of purple would have served Minnesota well.
1. Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets have unfortunately gone from their powder blue jersey this year. So it's just that they are rewarding us with the best City jerseys so far. This design is beautiful. The colors of the rainbow are reminiscent of the team's past, while the small white space between the colored bars gives a cleaner look than in previous iterations. Add to that the tribute to the Rocky Mountains and the Denver skyline, and you get the jersey of the city in 2018-19, at least until now.
