CHAPEL HILL, NC – After NC State's 34-28 overtime win over UNC at Chapel Hill, NC State players told the media about the eighth win of the season. Below you will find videos and transcripts of Ryan Finley, Reggie Gallaspy and Brock Miller after the third consecutive victory over the Tar Heels at Kenan Stadium.
Ryan Finley
Win three games against Carolina:
It's exciting. I am very happy for all the elderly – that we can go out this way. What a great victory – overtime. Just a nice team victory. I thought we had dominated the trenches and it was great to see.
On Gallaspy's effort:
Reggie is a beast. He went straight to beast mode on us all. Somehow, I managed the game and I let him do his thing. And he was running behind the Band of Brothers and they were blocking their ass. It was fun to watch. What an exciting way to win this game!
On being able to put the ball in overtime:
We absolutely followed them in the match at the end of the line. This is our team more serious than their team. I think they were tired and not us. We showed grain, hardness and we dominated.
In the time:
It was wet. The second half was definitely better conditions. I think you saw that kind of by the score. We were able to settle in the second half and be more balanced. The conditions of the first half were not great, but I was proud of the way we treated them.
On being able to throw in the second half:
We knew that (time) was going to clear up. Coach Drink and the offensive staff just said to stick to it and do what we do. That's what we ended up doing.
Coach Doeren is unbeaten at Kenan Stadium:
It's awesome. We nicknamed this Carter-Finley North Stadium. I do not lose here and we do not lose here.
On the one-handed capture of Jakobi Meyer:
"I just launched it – in his area code. We had a little joke – that's right. You give him a chance, he has a knockout with that … amazing game. For him to play this game on this disc, it was absolutely huge.
Reggie Gallaspy
Scored five touchdowns against North Carolina:
Unbelievable. Be 3-1 against UNC. We only lost once against UNC and it was my first year. It was amazing to put on a show and contribute. We did it for everyone – my daughter and all the university. It was just amazing.
On how he felt in overtime:
I feel that every time I touch the ball (I will not be stopped). Just have the mentality of finishing up and knowing that good things will come to you.
Importance of the senior class winning Saturday:
Just to have the opportunity to say that we beat them and that we are 3-1 and that fifth year seniors have 4-1. It's just very exciting.
On the current game:
You want to go to a university (as a running back) engaged in the current game and believing in it. This can open different things. I really like coach Doeren and coach Drinkwitz, who have this mentality of running.
People criticize us sometimes because things do not work at first. But as the game progresses and the pace begins to set in, we start moving things forward as you see today.
On how he felt in the second half:
Coach Kitchings already knows I want the ball to be in my hands. As an elder having everything that happened to me, you want the ball to be in your hands. If you show guys like Ricky (Person), who's going to do great things here, you have to get by.
To be honest, he really taught me a lot. But after the game against Virginia, he taught me a lot, because sometimes I let myself be had. He kept me pushing and kept me fighting.
On the coach Doeren saying to his son, they hope to have heart to him:
It's great to have your head coach – a model for you – sit around and tell you that you are a role model for his kids. Plus, I am father of a two year old daughter, and I am a role model for her. Knowing that I am a model for her also has an impact on other children. It's amazing how God opened a lot of doors for me and I had a lot of opportunities. And I can not thank him enough.
