A recall of nearly 100,000 pounds of ground beef was issued over the weekend by the Food Inspection and Food Safety Department of the United States Department of Agriculture.
The beef recall concerns possible E. coli contamination, FSIS said in a statement posted on the agency's website.
The recalled meat came from Swift Beef Company, located in Hyrum, Utah. The recalled items were shipped to dispensers for processing and food service distributors for use in locations in California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
The products concerned by the recall are:
• Swift 81/19 (81% lean) ground beef loose-leaf pallets containing the finely ground product, code 42982.
• 81/19 (81% lean) ground beef broth, coated with plastic, coarse sheep product code 42410.
• BEEF Blue Ribbon Ground Beef Kidneys packed in 93/07 (93% lean) plastic with product code 42413.
• 85/15 (lean 85%) coarse grain ground beef broth wrapped in plastic, product code 42415.
• 73/27 "BEEF blue ribbon" ground beef caps, plastic wrapped (73% lean) with product code 42510.
All products were manufactured on October 24, 2018.
The recall is the second in three days for Swift Beef Company. On November 16, FSIS made an initial booster of 523 pounds of beef after a meat sample at a processing facility tested positive for E. coli.
A list of these recalled products is available here. All products were manufactured on November 8, but no cases of disease or adverse effects were reported.
Swift Beef is part of JBS USA, which recalled 6.9 million pounds of meat in an area of 25 states after a salmonella outbreak in early October, reports CBS News. Fifty-nine people were hospitalized, while the Centers for Disease Control report that 246 people became ill due to contamination.
A spokesman for JBS USA told CBS MoneyWatch that "only a sample of the trade has been tested positive and that no consumer has reported any disease, we have taken this cautious approach in the US. interest of consumer safety ".
Consumers who have questions about the recall may call the JBS USA hotline at the Consumer Assistance Line at 800 727-2333.
