It was supposed to be a story of redemption, but it was just the end.
After a really bad first season, Iron First returned in season 2 trying to catch up with the past, and with a new showrunner, producing an offer that easily defeated the first, has earned its place in the universe Netflix Marvel.
And yet, given the poor conditions of season 1, it seems that few people are interested in season 2 "redemptive" because Netflix has just announced that Iron fist is canceled and will not return for season 3. Here is the statement:
"Marvel's Iron Fist will not be coming back for a third season on Netflix," Marvel told Deadline. "Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for the hard work of our incredible actors, teams and showrunners. We are grateful to the fans who watched these two seasons and for the partnership we shared on this series. While the series on Netflix is over, the immortal Iron Fist will continue to live. "
This seems strange to me for several reasons:
- It is quite rare that Netflix cancels series, especially those linked to high-level IP addresses.
- It was like Iron fist was an agreement packed with Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Luke Cage, but apparently not.
- Season 2 has ended on such a clear cliffhanger with (spoilers) Colleen being the new Iron Fist and Danny improving his powers to shoot the Golden Fist of Iron Fist, it seems that the writers supposed that the season 3 was a foregone conclusion.
And yet, Iron Fist was probably an expensive show, with a good amount of special effects and choreography needed. And the fact remains that if the number of viewers is low enough, Netflix will cancel you, even if you are a big producer of Marvel.
I can not blame the viewers for not having watched Season 2 of Iron First. Season 1 was not quite inhuman The level was bad, but it was pretty tight, a rare hollow of severe quality for Marvel. And during season 2 was Okay, that's a bit of everything, pretty good compared to the terrible season 1. I still do not think it rivals most of the other seasons at other Netflix shows, despite significant improvements.
What seems pretty clear in this announcement, is that Iron Fist will continue to be included in the rest of the Netflix MCU, possibly with Colleen. Danny and Colleen were important parts of the defenders crossover series and season 2 of Luke Cageand I would expect that they will continue to appear elsewhere. But the other characters in the series? I would be shocked if we revisited the Meachums, for example, or if we put an end to the evolving mystery of Mary Typhoid that was created but was not ended in Season 2.
I do not know, it's a bit nil and Netflix has so these days, this part of me looks a lot like "Come on, you could not have given it as a last season of 6-8 episodes to wrap up"? An abrupt cancellation does not seem fair, even with issues issue to date.
