The recent death of Marvel cartoon legend Stan Lee has inspired many tributes from friends, colleagues and even some Avengers – but a subtle new sign of Netflix might be the sweetest greeting you will see this week.
Currently, if you go on Netflix and you type "Excelsior" (the key phrase of Lee and that he signs whenever he's addressing his fans) in the search bar, Netflix brings together all the movies and TV shows currently on their service for which he helped create the original characters. .
This means that characters such as Daredevil, Iron Man, Doctor Strange and the Fantastic Four (co-created by Lee) and the Avengers (for whom he has created certain characters) are highlighted. Of course, some of Lee's other heroes, like Spider-Man, are left out because they do not stream to Netflix.
And if you're wondering why some Netflix content in Marvel has been omitted, including Iron Fist and Luke Cage, it's probably because Lee did not create these characters, which slightly dilutes the impact of their appearance.
Why was Jessica Jones, created by Brian Michael Bendis and not Lee, included? It's more mysterious. But given the frequency with which Bendis talked about how Lee inspired his work, we'll give him this one. Excelsior, true believers!
