ST. PAUL, Minnesota – The Minnesota Board of Animal Health has identified another case of benign infection by the bird flu virus in a herd of Minnesota turkeys.
Rutin tests confirmed the presence of the low pathogenic H5N2 virus in a turkey flock in Stearns County.
The flock of 13-week old hens was quarantined. The farm will be allowed to market the turkeys once the birds have achieved a negative result to the disease.
A similar case of the virus was detected last month in a herd of commercial turkeys in Kandiyohi County.
Officials said that this benign form of bird flu was not the same strain of virus that had caused a devastating epidemic in 2015 and that it posed no risk to public health or food security.
