FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots continue to try different options at their short-distance catcher position, agreeing to enter into contracts with Corey Coleman and Bennie Fowler, sources told Josina Anderson and Field Yates on Tuesday.
The Patriots had a revolving door to the receiver in 2018, as they buy time until Julian Edelman returns from a four-game suspension in the NFL. Chris Hogan and Phillip Dorsett topped the list with Cordarrelle Patterson, option # 3.
On Monday, the club gave up second-year rookie and punt Riley McCarron after smacking a kick in the fourth quarter of the season's win over the Houston Texans. The team also dropped receiver Chad Hansen, whom they claimed on September 2 from the New York Jets.

Coleman's departure from Cleveland was announced on HBO's "Hard Knocks" when he was introduced to the office of head coach Hue Jackson, asking him why he was running with the second unit. He then told Jackson that if the team did not want him to play, they would have to trade him.
Coleman, who was 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, had 56 receptions for 718 yards with five touchdowns in his two seasons with the Browns.
The NFL network was the first to signal New England plans to sign Coleman on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Fowler, 6-foot-1, 212 pounds, spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Denver Broncos. 2015 to 2017.
He had 56 receptions for 698 yards and five touchdowns from 2015 to 2017, but was the victim of a few passes that could have contributed to the Broncos' decision to separate from him in 2018.
Fowler signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears in April, but was not part of the 53-team pre-season squad.
