New Orleans Saints fear that Dez Bryant will tear the Achilles tendon during practice

METAIRIE, LA. – Just two days after Dez Bryant returned to the NFL, his 2018 season is now threatened.

The New Orleans Saints fear Bryant tore his Achilles in Friday's final practice match, a source told Adam Schefter, an ESPN NFL insider. The news was reported for the first time by the NFL network, which stated that Bryant would undergo an MRI.

Meanwhile, the Saints officially declared that Bryant was limited in Friday's training with an ankle injury. Sean Payton did not acknowledge the injury when he was told about Bryant after Friday's training before the injury announcement.

Bryant, who turned 30 on Sunday, was no longer part of a team since being released by the Dallas Cowboys in April. He practiced for the first time Thursday.

The Saints could potentially turn to another decorated veteran catcher, Brandon Marshall, who also impressed the team in a Tuesday training session, according to Schefter. The Saints also auditioned veteran receiver Kamar Aiken on Tuesday before choosing to sign Bryant.

It was unlikely that Bryant would play this week at the Cincinnati Bengals despite everything. The Saints do not have to immediately change their game plan, with Michael Thomas and rookie Tre 'Quan Smith as their two best receivers.

But they will certainly look to add depth to the position next week after placing Cameron Meredith on injured reserve Wednesday and Ted Ginn Jr. on IR last month.
