New study reveals that Russian trolls are behind most "last Jedi" online

One of the most polarizing debates of the past year had nothing to do with politics or did it do? "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" sparked a debate about love / hate that has not been seen since the presidential election, and it seems that a similar cause may be the basis of it.

According to a new research study by Morten Bay, which examined tweets sent directly to the director Rian Johnsonmore than half of them seemed to be more motivated by politics than by fans. In fact, only 21.9% of analyzed tweets seemed to come from real "Star Wars" fans disappointed by the movie.

"A number of these users seem to be Russian trolls," writes Morten about the remaining "enemies" his paper, entitled "Weaponizing the Haters:" The Last Jedi "and the Strategic Politicization of Pop Culture Through the Manipulation of Social Media".

Johnson shared the study via his social networking page on Monday, claiming that his own experiences with fans seemed to match what Morten had said about the actual percentages of those who did not like the movie.

The vitriol that emerged online was enough to drive Kelly Marie Tran, who plays the role of Rose Tico in the franchise, social media as a whole, while creating a gap between the fandom and society in general on this excessive online behavior. And it turns out, according to Morten, that this may be the motivation.

He said he found "evidence of the existence of measures of deliberate and organized political influence, disguised as supporters' arguments". Their motivation was not at all about the film, but about the continuation and even worsening of the growing political divide in the United States, undermining the effectiveness of its democracy.

And it's not just the Russian trolls that attack Johnson; there was a lot of hate coming from the alt-right move, which was behind the "Gamergate" controversy and even convinced Disney to shoot James Gunn of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3" more than a decade of terrible jokes.

Morten wrote that just over 50% (or 50.9%, to be exact) of the attacks that Johnson had suffered came personally from "bots, troll puppets / socks or political activists" who used the debate to broadcast messages supporting extreme right causes and discrimination based on sex, race or sexuality ".

And so, again, the truth has been obscured by politically motivated, politically motivated hate speech perpetrated by those who seek to harm the United States from within and from outside its borders. boundaries and that people simply eat. Thank God, "The Last Jedi" did not run in the elections. Imagine the harm that could be done The!
