United Airlines will present its new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners on its transcontinental "Premium" between Newark and California, the carrier said Monday morning.

The jets – the newest and most powerful version of Boeing's 787 Widebody – are expected to begin arriving at United later this year.

United will begin flying on January 7, 2019, adding the 787-10 to his schedule between Newark and Los Angeles. The 787-10 will eventually be equipped with two of the twelve daily Newark-LAX roundtrip flights offered by the airline.

The United 787-10s will start flying from Newark to San Francisco in February, taking one of the 15 daily return flights offered by the carrier on its route.

The United 787-10 will welcome 318 passengers, including 44 in business class and 21 in United's new "Premium Plus" reclining seats, which differentiate between business seats and classic coach seats. There are also 54 Premium Economy extra-legroom seats and 199 standard coaches.

United's 787-10 will join other United aircraft serving its "Premium transcontinental service" between Newark and California. Planes serving the routes include flat seats in business class, as well as improved service and benefits in the other classes of services. So far, United has not announced its intention to add the 787-10 to the mix on United's third transcontinental road between Boston and San Francisco.

United will be the first North American airline to use the "dash 10" variant of the 787. The aircraft is essentially an expandable version of the shorter versions of Boeing (787-8 and 787-9). Compared to the 787-9, the dashboard 10 is about 18 feet longer than the 787-9 and can carry more passengers and more freight.

Although larger than the Dreamliner versions -9 and -8, the maximum flight range of the -10 is shorter – "up to 6,430 nautical miles," according to United.

United has firm orders for 14 "stretched" versions of the Dreamliner and is expected to have three in its fleet by the end of 2018. The carrier is already flying in about 36 other 787 models, a mix of the smaller 787 -8 and 787-9 models.

In addition to unveiling its first 787-10 routes, United has also announced the purchase of an additional nine 787-9, the first of which should begin arriving in 2020.

The new 787-9s are part of United's comprehensive fleet plan, which includes its large-lift replacement strategy.

United is looking to replace its fleet of approximately 50 Boeing 767. According to Airfleets.net, aircraft are among the oldest aircraft types in the carrier's main fleet, with an average age of around 21 years.
