MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia will declare illegal any new chemical-related sanctions imposed by the United States, a spokesman for the Kremlin said on Wednesday.

The US State Department announced on Tuesday that it would impose additional sanctions on Russia after Moscow failed to give reasonable assurance not to use chemical weapons after the attack by a nerve agent of a former Russian spy in England.

"We consider that the restrictions imposed by the United States on Russia are illegal," Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
