The New York Yankees have activated Aaron Judge from the list of disabled people Friday, but the player is still not ready to participate in a match, said manager Aaron Boone.
Judge will be available for baserunning and in the outer field, as needed, while he continues his rehabilitation after a right wrist fracture.
Boone told reporters that the team had taken a few days to make a decision on the presence of judges in a simulated game, a step before it hits in a game. The Yankees want Judge to eliminate all rust before the playoffs.
The judge took part in the practice of batting on Monday – the first time he has faced a throw since he was injured when he was hit by a fastball from Royals pitcher Jakob Junis on 26 July.
The Yankees were 25-20 in the absence of the judge. The day he was injured, New York was 65-36 and 4½ games behind Boston in the Eastern AHL. On Friday, the Yankees made 90-56, 10½ games behind the Red Sox.
The judge hits .285 with 26 homers and 61 RBIs this season.
In addition, Aroldis Chapman, injured, will launch another bull session Saturday, a simulated game Monday, which could be activated in the middle of next week.
Chapman has not participated in a match since August 21 because of a left knee tendinitis.
