CALIFORNIA – From meat products to romaine lettuce, several foods have been recalled recently in California and throughout the country due to some kind of contamination. Here is a list of foods you want to avoid:
Romaine lettuce: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a food safety alert for an outbreak of E. coli. Coli in several states related to romaine lettuce. According to the CDC, 32 people in 11 states, including California, were infected with E. coli at the last outbreak. At least 13 people were hospitalized and one person developed a type of kidney failure. No deaths have been reported.
Jennie-O Ground Turkey: Jennie-O has recalled more than 91,000 pounds of raw ground turkey in a salmonella outbreak, according to the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. At least 164 people have been sick in 35 states. One person in California died and 63 people were hospitalized.
Duncan Hines cake mix: According to the US Food and Drug Administration, Conagra Brands has recalled four types of Duncan Hines cake mixes due to possible salmonella contamination. The voluntary recall came after Conagra Brands had discovered that a cake mix sample matched the DNA fingerprint identified by the CDC in five cases of salmonellosis, according to the FDA.
Ground beef: JBS Tolleson Inc. recalled 6.9 million pounds of beef products, as they could be contaminated with salmonella, according to the CDC. A total of 246 people were infected in 25 states, including California. At least 59 people were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
Raw chicken: An epidemic strain of salmonella infantis linked to raw chicken products from different sources is also on the study, according to the CDC. There were 92 cases in 29 states, including California. At least 21 people were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
