It's easy for Terrell Owens to identify the exact moment when his relationship with the 49ers began to degrade.
Owens pointed to the aftermath of the 2000 game when he ran twice to the star in the middle of Texas Stadium after grabbing touchdown passes against the Dallas Cowboys.
"I've become a fan favorite," Owens said in a recent television interview aired on The 49ers Insider Podcast and NBC Sports Bay Area's "49ers Pregame Live."
"And a lot of fans hated me too, especially the opposing teams, especially the Dallas Cowboys at that time."
The second time Owens rushed past the star after picking up a Jeff Garcia touchdown pass, George Teague set it aside to ensure safety in Dallas.
The next day, 49-year-old coach Steve Mariucci suspended Owens without pay for a match. Owens said that he agreed with everyone who thinks he has become a different person after receiving the punishment imposed by the team.
"When I go to the star, I think my relationship with coach Mariucci has broken off at that time too," Owens said.
Despite Owens' acrimonious relationship with the organization, he remained with the 49ers throughout the 2003 season. He was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Eagles against defensive wing Brandon Whiting, who played only five games with the 49ers.
Owens said he was now working better with the 49ers.
He attended the August memorial service for Dwight Clark in San Francisco. Clark was the general manager when the 49ers selected Owens in the third round of the 1996 project. He was also present at the alumni weekend two weeks ago for the unveiling of Clark and Joe's "The Catch" statues. Montana.
On Thursday, Owens is to receive his Professional Football Hall of Fame ring of excellence at the 49ers-Raiders half-time at Levi's Stadium.
He also confirmed that the team's CEO, Jed York, had recently approached him to induct the 49ers Hall of Fame.
"He said he wanted me to come," said Owens. "I have no ill will at the moment. I've always felt like a 49 year old.
