In 2018, the NFL season was crazy and the third week was no different.

Carson Wentz made his comeback, Marcus Mariota left the bench to replace Blaine Gabbert, Adrian Peterson jostled the Green Bay Packers like 10 years ago, the Detroit Lions beat the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills-like precisely, no one had predicted it.

Oh, and the Cleveland Browns have had their first win since the Obama administration.

There was plenty of good, bad and ugly at week 3, and just a little weird. How was your favorite team ranked for the week? Let's dig in

Opponent of the third week: Chicago Bears

    Result: Lost 16-14

The Arizona Cardinals are not the only team without a win in the NFL, but it's possible that they are the worst. They managed to take a 14-point lead in the first quarter and still screwed up the game against the Chicago Bears.

On a positive note, the Arizona defense showed signs of life where she had not experienced the first two weeks. The blitz managed to disrupt the Chicago game and forced a pair of turnovers. On the other side, the offensive game plan continues to baffle.

David Johnson won only 12 races, with Arizona taking the lead for most of the match. He also got only four receptions for 30 yards and one touchdown. This is not a bad line of statistics, but it is disappointing for one of the best defenders of the NFL.

Johnson was not even on the field when the Cardinals faced a third and second Bears territory just inside the last two-minute caution. Rookie Josh Rosen launched an interception at the next play.

Rosen entered the game because head coach Steve Wilks wanted to give the team a spark, according to Kevin Zimmerman from ArizonaSports.com. Maybe the idea of sending things back to Rosen full time will give hope to fans. Sunday's defeat, however, was pure disappointment.

Opponent of the third week: New Orleans Saints

    Result: Lost 43-37 (OT)

If you're a fan of NFL shootings, you've probably loved the Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints game this week. If you're a fan of Falcons, you've probably been disappointed.

Atlanta did good things, of course. Matt Ryan (374 yards, five touchdowns) threw the ball up and down and rookie rookie Calvin Ridley (146 yards, three touchdowns) made his opening appearance. However, the Atlanta defense – which dominated the first week and at least did some important plays during the second week – was untraceable.

New Orleans racked up 534 yards, 32 first tries and did not make a turnover. The Saints also drove on overtime and won on a Drew Brees landing run. He made two touchdown passes in the game on the 19th and 20th of his career.

The Falcons had nothing to lose from their running game. Yes, Devonta Freeman was out, but only 2.2 yards per team race is unacceptable.

The Atlanta attack seemed as dangerous as in the league, but the Falcons will not be title contenders if the rest of the team is as responsible as Sunday.

Opponent of the third week: Broncos from Denver

    Result: Won 27-14

The Baltimore Ravens rebounded after a week-long defeat to beat the Denver Broncos convincingly. At the beginning of the game, however, this did not seem to be the case.

The Broncos led 14-7 in the first quarter, but Baltimore scored the final 20 points of the match, while the Broncos attack became apathetic. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Denver scored, but Case Keenum intercepted a red zone.

The Ravens defense, beaten several times last Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals in long passes, allowed only 5.6 yards per pass on average against Denver. He fired Keenum three times and limited to just 293 total yards of the attack.

Joe Flacco (25-of-40 for 277 yards and a touchdown) was effective in throwing the ball, and we still saw how much his receiving body has been improved compared to last season. Ground clearance, however, continues to be a problem. Baltimore averaged only 2.8 yards per race.

Opponent of the third week: Minnesota Vikings

    Result: Won 27-6

The decision of Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott to resume defensive games (according to him, it is always a collaborative effort) seems to be the right decision. The Minnesota Vikings have had no answer to their defense for nearly four full quarters and found only points in the dead time.

While the dramatic recovery of Buffalo's defense should to be the hunk of this game, all the buzz was done on rookie quarterback Josh Allen. The Wyoming product finished 15-for-22 for a total of 196 yards and one touchdown rushing for two more.

Allen still has a lot to learn about being an NFL signalman – avoiding unnecessary hits, that's lesson # 1 – but it's hard to deny his athleticism and arm strength. . Both were in full demonstration against the Vikings, and it was easy to see the raw potential that made the Bills fall in love with him.

There's still work to do with Allen and the Buffalo offense as a whole – it's averaged only 3.4 yards per run and was only 4 out of 13 in third – but that's was a big step in the right direction for a team that seemed like it was going nowhere fast.

Opponent of the third week: Bengals of Cincinnati

    Result: Won 31-21

If in doubt, Christian McCaffrey proved he was an NFL player on Sunday. He earned 184 yards and caught two passes for 10 yards to help the Carolina Panthers defeat the Cincinnati Bengals.

McCaffrey did not do it alone, of course. Cam Newton made his own ground damage (36 yards, two touchdowns) and made quick passes to keep the Cincinnati defense out of balance. The Panthers own defense played a style of bending but no break that produced enough big games (four interceptions) to get ahead.

This was not a perfect day for the Panthers, though. Newton has seen his wide receivers pick up more passes, and that's a trend that needs to stop. The defense was also hampered several times by heavy ground games (Cincinnati averaged 5.1 yards per run) and the air (7.7 yards). Without these interceptions – one of which was on an endless Hail Mary game – the end result could have been very different.

Carolina should seek to strengthen its defense during week 4 goodbye.

Opponent of the third week: Arizona Cardinals

    Result: Won 16-14

The Bears are now alone in possession of first place in the North of the NFC. It's quite a feat, but the way Chicago arrived on Sunday was about as ugly as it could be.

Chicago was quickly found in a 14-0 hole against the Cardinals without a win. The defense went stiff from there and gave the offensive enough chances to respond, and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears offense did their best to stay in the match .

The final line of Trubisky (24 of 35 for 220 yards and one interception) does not seem terrible, but it does not tell everything. He struggled with his vertical passes, made several bad decisions, and returned the ball twice.

Chicago was able to count on its defense and racing game to win Arizona, but that should not have been the case. The Bears have invested in pass-catchers and an offensive head coach at Matt Nagy to help develop Trubisky. He always looks like an unstable quarterback as a rookie.

Trubisky is going to have to be better next week with the indecent Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming to town.

Opponent of the third week: Carolina Panthers

    Result: Lost 31-21

The Bengals worked a lot against them on Sunday. They were on the road against a good team of Panthers and without starting the offensive midfielder Joe Mixon (knee). They also lost the highest receiver A.J. Green to a groin injury during the match.

according to Paul Dehner Jr. of Cincinnati EnquirerGreen does not believe the injury is serious.

Cincinnati is well beaten but has made tactical mistakes and mistakes. The offensive was not enough for the ground game – Giovani Bernard had only 12 carries but gained 61 yards – and Andy Dalton made four interceptions.

To be fair to Dalton, a choice was made on a pass shot in the air, another on a last second, Hail Mary.

The Bengals were clearly not the best team on Sunday, but fans should not be too discouraged by defeat. It is imperative, however, that Cincinnati cleans up its mistakes and game plan before traveling to face the Falcons next week.

Opponent of the third week: New York Jets

    Result: Won 21-17

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield's debut came only because starter Tyrod Taylor left the game with a concussion. Mayfield, however, made a comeback and we finally got a glimpse of what the 2018 Browns may be.

The attack played fast with Mayfield (17-of-23 for 201 yards) under center, there was energy on both sides of the ball, and Cleveland did something that he did not. failed to do in the first two weeks. It's over.

If we only evaluate the Mayfield Browns, they would get an "A +". They were so close to perfection. After the start of the rookie, Cleveland dominated. They took part in a 21-3 race and chose Sam Darnold on each of the last two records of the New York Jets.

We have to spend four quarters, and Cleveland did not play well before Mayfield's arrival. Taylor had a disastrous match, special teams allowed a blocked kick and the defense made two touchdowns during the takeoff of Isaiah Crowell.

Of course, this is only one game, but the decision of head coach Hue Jackson to sit on Mayfield seems to be a clear "F".

Opponent of the third week: Seattle Seahawks

    Result: Lost 24-13

Last week, we saw the Dallas Cowboys in 2018. It was a team that would dominate offensively and defensively on the pitch. There would be just enough big games from Dak Prescott and just enough high school stops to win, as Dallas did at Week 2.

Unfortunately, Dallas followed this game plan accurately against the Seattle Seahawks and still failed.

Dallas has often put pressure on Russell Wilson. He limited the Seahawks to 2.9 yards per race. Ezekiel Elliott grabbed 127 yards and the Cowboys averaged 8.7 yards per game.

The problem was that the Cowboys did not stop Wilson from buying time and making big games. The other problem was that Prescott could not do the same thing.

In fact, Prescott was a border disaster in Seattle, with only 19 interceptions out of 34 for 168 yards and two interceptions. He could not detect the pressure in his pocket – he had been fired five times – and he had not completed a pass of more than 20 meters.

If Prescott and the passing game do not improve sooner, his status as a Dallas starter after 2018 could be questioned.

Opponent of the third week: Baltimore Ravens

The Broncos could have a familiar problem with the quarterback. Case Keenum was supposed to be the solution to the position, at least in the near future, but it was not as efficient or as cautious as the Broncos wanted.

Keenum had a red-zone interception against Baltimore on Sunday and now has five choices on the season. This is a big problem for a team that has enough running game and enough defensive talent to win with a game manager at quarterback, as long as it is careful with the game. ball.

Against the Ravens, however, managing the game was not enough. Phillip Lindsay has been deported for throw a punch in the second quarter, and the Broncos needed Keenum to take over. Although he made 22 of his 34 attempts, Keenum failed to challenge Baltimore. This made Denver's defense of the offense less difficult.

The Denver defense deserves a blame, however, because it allowed Baltimore to convert eight of the 16 unsuccessful attempts and to not keep a fast lead.

Patricia's defensive game plan was masterful. Aside from an interception, the offense was almost perfect. Patriotes quarterback Tom Brady looked even more pedestrian than last week against the Jaguars. Kerryon Johnson has become the first Lions player to run at least 100 yards since 2013.

From the kickoff to the final whistle, the Lions seemed to be the most motivated team.

"Nobody knows us better than Matt," said Patriot coach Bill Belichick about Patricia, according to Yahoo Sports's Michael David Smith.

Aaron Rodgers has not been in good health since the first half of week 1. However, his health was not the reason the Packers could not overthrow the Washington Redskins.

Rodgers (27 of 44 for 265 yards and two touchdowns) played well with his knee injury.

The problem for Green Bay was that it could not stop the Washington offensive. Alex Smith was regularly connected on long passes (he had 220 yards on only 12 finishes), and Adrian Peterson (120 yards, two touchdowns) jostled the Packers defense as if he were back in a Vikings uniform.

Due to an early 14-0 hole, the Packers did not run often – they only had 17 attempts despite averaging 5.9 yards per run. This left Rodgers open to blows and bags (he took four). When Clay Matthews tried to dismiss Smith, he was accused of useless roughness … for the third week in a row.

The Philadelphia Eagles brought Carson Wentz back on Sunday after losing him just before the end of the 2017 regular season. Wentz got the best result of the duel and the Eagles beat the Colts.

Give credit to Indianapolis, however. He stood up to the reigning Super Bowl champions. The new-look defense often bowed but kept Indianapolis in the game. In fact, the Colts had a three-point lead in the third quarter and again in the fourth.

There were two big problems for Indianapolis. One was a run defense that was defeated by 152 yards and 4.3 yards per run, although Eagles defensemen Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles were injured and did not dress. . The second problem was that luck and attack could not find a crack in Philadelphia's defense with some consistency.

Talk about a disappointment. The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the New England Patriots in Week 2, but fell to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, losing a snoozer in a game that also dropped offensive football fans.

Jacksonville did not start calling off-back Leonard Fournette (hamstring), but it should have been a bit difficult against a Titans team with a highly dubious quarterback situation. Blaine Gabbert started for Tennessee but came out with a concussion. This left Marcus Mariota and his throbbing hand numb to carry out the attack.

That's right, Jacksonville hit Tom Brady but failed to get the best of Blaine Gabbert and half Marcus Mariota.

Blake Bortles (155 yards) was unable to push the ball and a number of penalties (eight for 75 yards) routinely put the Jaguars behind the starting block. Division games can be tough, but it was a total failure for a team with championship aspirations.

Patrick Mahomes is the truth. I will be the first to admit that I thought his development as an NFL caller would take time and that the Kansas City Chiefs would take over with Alex Smith this season.

    I was wrong.

Mahomes makes sure it's easy to play quarterback, and he's had another spectacular match against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. He finished with 314 yards and three touchdowns. He now has 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

The 13 touchdowns of Mahomes are the the most by a quarter in the first three games of a season in the history of the league.

It is good that the Kansas City attack is ridiculous, however, because the defense is at the opposite end of the spectrum. The Chiefs delivered 406 rushing yards to the 49ers and they only have six sacks and one interception over the season.

In a battle for Los Angeles supremacy, the Chargers and Rams faced Sunday afternoon. For a moment, the fight was pretty close.

Philip Rivers and the Chargers attack exchanged shots with the Rams in the first half, starting the break with an eight-point deficit only because the Rams recovered a blocked kick in the end zone. The special team gaffe proved to be huge, while the Chargers outpaced them 17-14 the rest of the way.

The rivers (226 yards, two touchdowns) were good. It was the same for the Chargers' running backs: Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler had 127 yards on the ground and one touchdown. In the end, the Rams had just too many weapons in attack and defense for the Chargers.

The defense was a major responsibility for the second time this season, the first being against Kansas City. Sunday, the Chargers conceded 521 yards of total offense while they only got one bag against Jared Goff. Yes, the Chiefs and Rams have two very powerful attacks, but the defense just needs to be better if the Chargers are to be taken seriously as potential candidates in the playoffs.

The Rams' line-up is full of talent on both sides of the ball and Los Angeles did not end up in a second-period air fight until this week against the Chargers. The Rams' high-profile defense has been tested by the Chargers, who themselves have a talented team.

Even if the Rams had a lead in the second half, they had to keep scoring. Jared Goff and Co. were up to the task, and Goff won one of his best games as a professional. He finished 29 of 36 for 354 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Todd Gurley did his share with 105 yards and a touchdown.

It was far from a perfect day, however. The Rams' defense showed she was still sensitive to the race – she allowed an average of 7.1 yards per run and lost quarterbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters.

Now, the Raiders are not a very good team, and it's fair to wonder if any of the teams that Miami has beaten are particularly good. However, you can only play the teams in front of you, and Sunday's return was a testament to Miami's motivation and creativity.

Ryan Tannehill (289 yards, three touchdowns) burned the Raiders' defense several times during the return, and he shone particularly well on the deep passes. He also received help from Albert Wilson's 52-yard touchdown pass.

There were a lot of disappointments in the third week, but none of them stood out from Minnesota. After a draw against the rival Packers last week, the Vikings may have simply neglected the Bills. This turned out to be a big mistake.

Do not hurt Dalvin Cook, but it's not an excuse to completely melt against the Buffalo rush. Kirk Cousins was fired four times, escaped three times, lost two and launched an interception. You will not win a lot of games when your watch is constantly under pressure and coughs often.

You will not often win when your defense can not stop a ground quarterback. The Vikings' defense made rookie Josh Allen (39 yards, two touchdowns) look like Cam Newton, and his run resulted in easy throws and long-distance play.

The death knell was premature for the Patriots, so we can not say that a second consecutive loss is a season. Still, the loss to the Lions was certainly bad and that suggests big problems for the defending champions of the AFC.

The problem is not just that Brady (14 of 26 for 133 yards) was bad, even though he was. It is that unnamed pass-writers Rob Gronkowski have not been able to open the field. It is that the defense could not stop the race or the pass. It's true that even when the Patriots moved back into the three points, they let the Lions stomp their necks and put the game out of reach.

It is that New England has seemed outclassed in virtually every facet of the game, even more than in last week's loss to the Jaguars. This is the first time the Patriots have lost double digits in consecutive games since 2002.

It is difficult to hit the Jets for having lost on the road, for a short week, with a rookie quarter against a very opportunistic defense. Still, this team had a 14-0 lead and blew up a rookie quarterback who got almost zero representative of the first team as a pro.

Many people deserve to be blamed for leading the lead of both touchdowns, including head coach Todd Bowles. He could not keep his team disciplined – he had two unsportsmanlike penalties – and could not adjust his defense after Baker Mayfield took control at the quarterback.

Darnold also deserves to be blamed for making bad decisions and forcing the party. He is obviously still learning, but even a rookie should know that being careless with the ball will cost you games.

However, this wasn't the kind of win that should make anyone suddenly believe Seattle is going to be a contender.

While the Steelers are slumping, the Buccaneers have been flying high.

Behind the throwing arm of Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Tampa passing attack (averaging 405.0 yards per game) is as dangerous as any in the league. The Buccaneers have gained a supreme amount of confidence, and they'll carry it into Raymond James Stadium on Monday night.

Will confidence and an elite aerial assault be enough to top Pittsburgh?

    Week 3 Opponent: Jacksonville Jaguars

    Result: Won 9-6

Marcus Mariota is supposed to be Tennessee's franchise quarterback, but he sat behind Blaine Gabbert for the second straight week because of an elbow injury that has left him without 100 percent feeling in his throwing hand. Mariota came off the bench, though, and helped the Titans win a game that really had more to do with their running game and swarming defense.

Tennessee totaled 150 yards on the ground and just 83 net yards passing. Yet, the Titans allowed just 232 yards of Jaguars offense. The defense brought Blake Bortles back to earth, while the offense did enough to give kicker Ryan Succop more opportunities than his Jacksonville counterpart.

Succop was 3-of-4 on field-goal attempts on the day.

Things certainly haven't been pretty through the first three weeks of the season, but the Titans have found a way to win two consecutive games, division contests at that. Perhaps it's a testament to the coaching of Mike Vrabel, but Tennessee has gutted its way to a 2-1 record and first place in the AFC South.

Had Aaron Rodgers been at 100 percent, the Redskins might have lost this game. He wasn't, though, and Washington didn't. The defensive front was able to consistently pressure him. While this didn't lead to game-changing mistakes, it prevented him from carrying his team.

Washington didn't need just one player. Alex Smith (220 yards passing, 20 yards rushing) and Adrian Peterson (120 yards, two touchdowns) led a precise, efficient offense that finished drives with points five times.

We saw the return of aggressive Alex Smith too. He completed passes of 46 and 50 yards.

"We had them on their heels in the first half," Smith said, per John Keim of ESPN.com. "They didn't have a very good beat on what we were doing, run and pass. It was fun when you're playing that like that and rolling offensively."

The offense got Washington off to a strong start. The defense finished. Washington is now 2-1 and tied for first place in the NFC East.
