NFL Week 7 Power Rankings: Ravens' defense makes them legitimate contenders for the Super Bowl, a big test against Saints looming

The entire off-season, we talked about the extent of the defenses of Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams this season.

Speaking of them, some even mentioned the word generation to support them.

Six weeks into the NFL season, none of them are the top ranked defense in the league. This place is occupied by the Baltimore Ravens, fresh out of their 11-bag performance in their 21-0 shutout against the Titans of Tennessee on Sunday.

The Ravens are first in total defense, first in goal defense, first in yards per game and second in defense in third. This unit led the Ravens to a 4-2 start and placed them at No. 5 of my Power Rankings this week.

The Ravens offensive was not bad either, ranking ninth overall and 12th overall.

Are the Ravens legitimate at the Super Bowl? You bet.

But this week, this defense faces a tough test and a major offensive challenge with the New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees. If they manage to slow down the Saints attack, some will compare this defense to the formidable Ravens defense of 2000 which sets the league scoring record and leads the team to a Super Bowl victory .

Let's slow down a bit, but for the moment, it's the best defense of the NFL, an interesting mix of young and old, with veterans like Terrell Suggs and Eric Weddle at the head of a talented group.

They can clearly claim the best defense of the NFL at the moment. Who saw that coming?
