The NHL's free agency is just two days away, with players ready to sign new deals with the teams on July 1st. Unrestricted free agents around the league are beginning to decide on their new homes and rumors continue to improve. York Islanders player John Tavares could make his decision very quickly, when he decides to return to Long Island or play for a new team like the Toronto Maple Leafs, the San Jose Sharks, the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins and Boston Bruins.
Tavares' decision could have a significant impact on teams and other independent players like Paul Stastny, as well as on potential commercial targets like Ryan O'Reilly

Erik Karlsson in Vegas?
He is not a free agent, but a player who could move this summer is Ottawa Senators defender Erik Karlsson. The 2019 free agent on hold will be online for a big payday after the 2018-2019 season, and rebuilding senators are ready to move it.

If Tavares is to sign again with the Islanders, he must do so by Saturday in order to get the eighth year of his contract, which only the Islanders can give him. If he waits until July 1, he will be able to sign for up to seven years with any team.
A decision in one direction or in the other will probably be taken before, because Tavares will inform the teams at some point to let them act elsewhere on the market. Once Tavares makes his call, the other free agent dominoes can begin to fall.
