WASHINGTON – The NHL Players 'Association has appealed from Tom Wilson after the Capitals' forward was suspended 20 times for an illegal head check.
The NHLPA announced the planned move Friday, which was to take place within 48 hours of Wilson's suspension by the Player Safety Department. Commissioner Gary Bettman will hear the call, but the date has not yet been determined.

He has confirmed the bans of 10 games for Antoine Vermette in 2017, 20 for Dennis Wideman in 2016, 15 games for Shawn Thornton and 10 games for Patrick Kaleta in 2013. If Bettman maintained this suspension, Wilson and AJLNH could appeal to a neutral referee. The ban for an official to strike an official has been reduced to 10 games by a referee, whereas he had already played 19 at the time this decision was made.
