Before Alabama faced West Virginia for the opening of the 2014 season, Manchin told AL.com about his growing memories with Saban near Fairmount, West Virginia.

"His size has always been a challenge for those tough sports," Manchin said. "But Nick was as difficult as anyone, my God, if he had got a little bigger, he would have killed everyone, I think WVU's biggest mistake was not giving Nick Saban a scholarship. "
