Nicole Kidman said that her very prestigious wedding with Tom Cruise protected her from endemic sexual abuse in Hollywood.
S addressing New York Magazine for her new issue on women and power, the star of "Big Little Lies" explained that early in her career she had been spared from cases of sexual harassment too frequent due to the power of Cruise.
"I am still reluctant to get married to Tom Cruise at age 22 because I am now married to the man who is my big love. [Keith Urban], and you feel almost disrespectful, "wrote Kidman in an essay for the point of sale. "That said, I married very young, but it was certainly not a power for me – it was a protection."
"I married for love, but being married to an extremely powerful man has avoided being sexually harassed," she continued. "I would work, but I was still very cocooned."
After playing alongside Cruise in the 1990s "Days of Thunder," Kidman began a flash romance with the star, tying the knot the same year and adopting two children together.
Of course, they separated more than ten years later, when rumors claimed that Cruise's devotion to Scientology had led to a gap. In 2006, she married singer Keith Urban, with whom she now shares two daughters.
Kidman went on to explain that when her marriage to Cruise ended, she was forced to "grow up" and had her own "#MeToo" moments.
"But do I want to expose them in an article? No. Do they come out in my work? Absolutely, "she added. "I am open and raw. I want my experience and emotion to be exploited – used, and I'm not just talking about sexual harassment. I speak of loss, of death, of all that is life. But it must be done by the right people so that it is not abused anymore. "
The recipient of the Academy Award has not said anything about her marriage to Cruise since their divorce, but she often commented on how young she was at the time.
"I was so young," she told Vanity Fair in 2013 about the relationship. "And you know, without disrespect to what I had with Tom, I've now met my big love."
"I did not want to go from one relationship to another," she added. "I spent a lot of time alone, which was really, really good, because I was really a child when I got married. And I needed to grow.
