Boko Haram gunmen carried out a new attack against a military base in Borno State on Friday night, an official said.
Borno deputy governor Usman Durkwa, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Maiduguri on Saturday, said the troops and neighboring communities had been attacked in the Guzamala local government area .

Gudumbali civil guard force chief Bunu Bukar told reporters in Maiduguri on Saturday that the attack was large and unexpected.

Bukar said he was unsure if civilians had been injured in a shooting between the armed group and Nigerian soldiers.

The attack is the latest in the Boko Haram on security forces.
Dozens of soldiers have died in recent similar attacks on Borno and Yobe, and many of these attacks have been denied by the army.
