(KATHMANDOU, Nepal) – Rescuers on Sunday found the bodies of five South Korean climbers and their four Nepali guides who died in a storm that destroyed their base camp on Gurja Himal Mountain.

Two helicopters brought eight bodies to Kathmandu from the mountain after clear weather. The body of one of the Nepali guides was flown to his village.

Grieving family members gathered at the Tribhuvan University Hospital in the Nepalese capital, where the bodies were taken for autopsy before being handed over to their families.

The storm swept the camp Friday night and the news of the destruction was announced Saturday morning. Bad weather did not allow the helicopters to land, but the villagers reached base camp on Saturday night and found the bodies.

Mountaineers attempted to climb the 7,193-meter (23,590-foot) peak during the fall climbing season.
