NOTThree people were burned, the most destructive fire in California for at least a century ravaged the city of Paradise, while celebrities fled the fires that were unfolding rapidly in the south of the state .
Only one day after the beginning of the "campfire", it spread over an area of 140 square miles and razed the city, which has 30,000 inhabitants. More than 2,000 firefighters fought the fire that destroyed more than 6,700 homes and businesses.
Captain Scott McLean, of the California Department of Forests and Fire Protection, said, "The community of Paradise is virtually destroyed, and that's the kind of devastation.
"There really was no fighting involved, these firefighters were in rescue mode all day yesterday."
He added that thousands of buildings had been lost in paradise, about 180 km northeast of San Francisco.
Jody Jones, the mayor of Paradise, said that the hospital, a McDonald's restaurant and many other businesses had been engulfed.
